passport bros 🤮
Carla Subirana of The Economist explains “passport bros,” American guys who move abroad to date and take advantage of foreign women their money going farther.
One guy literally says he prefers dating poor women:
When Justin says he prefers to date women with fewer resources, he’s not just describing more traditional roles, he is effectively describing a relationship where one person holds most of the power. Money creates dependence, and dependence can become control.
😬 😬 😬
Passport bros prefer to describe it as ~finding love abroad~ with women who ~know how to treat a man right~ (barf) instead of calling themselves sex tourists. Honestly, they sound like scary, right-wing misogynists/incels who think U.S. feminism has gone too far.
The Economist again:
The moment women get reduced to types—good wives, bad wives, more traditional—they’re being set against each other… It’s another familiar trope of the Manosphere: keep women arguing with each other and no one questions who’s still setting the rules.
It’s a really interesting piece. It’s behind a paywall, but you can read the full transcript here.
